Due to recent events (flooding in early June 2024)
Rain and precipitation not only affect agriculture, vegetation and culture, but also the local climate. Of course, this depends on the frequency and amount of precipitation.
Snow, hail, heavy rain and lack of precipitation can lead to disasters. These include, for example, destroyed habitats, floods and droughts. That is why it is important to know how much rain has fallen in which areas. This allows long-term trends and possible patterns to be identified.
Decisions can then be made regarding climate change and water management.
But even in the short term, knowledge about precipitation can help us to predict impending floods in good time and take countermeasures.
Countermeasures/precautions can include:
- Seal windows and doors.
- Switch off electrical appliances and heating.
- Do not enter garages or basements.
- Stack sandbags if necessary.
- Move valuables to a safe place.
- Go to higher floors.
- Follow the instructions of the emergency services.
One way to find out how much rain has fallen is to use the silicone rain gauge from Forena. This allows you to reliably read the amount of rainfall in litres per square metre on a scale throughout the year.
